India’s 24 years wait to qualify for the Asia Cup football tournament has end when Indian football team defeated defending champions Tajikistan 4-1 in the AFC Cup final played at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday night. Sports Minister M S Gill congratulated the Indian football players as well as coach Bob Hougton and captain Baichung Bhutia for their achievement. Further he said “I want Indian Football team play in Olympics and win Gold medal for India.

Two-time Asian Games gold medallist India last played in the Asia Cup in 1984. Sunil Chhetri was hero of final; he scored three goals for India. Chhetri set up his first goal in the 9th minute, second goal in the 19th minute and India’s third goal in the 23rd minute. Thus Sunil Chhetri completed his hat trick in final of AFC Challenge Cup. While Indian skipper Bhaichung Bhutia scored one goal for India. Tajikistan tried to come back in the match but they could only one goal thus India won AFC Challenge Cup by 4-1.

Sri Lanka Won Asia cup 2008

Sri Lanka again won Asia cup by defeating India with 100 runs on Sunday. Sri Lanka has won Asia cup now four times. Earlier this India only has this honor. Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya played his natural game and with help of 9 fours and 5 six, made 125 runs off 114 balls. But other Sri Lankan players could not give more contribution such as; Sri Lanka gave target of 274 runs to India. While Indian bowler performed their best and R.P. Singh took 3 wickets same as Ishant Sharma also out three wickets.

India opener gave good start; Virender Sehwag made 60 runs only by facing 36 balls, with help of 12 fours. When Virender Sehwag was playing at that time it was seem that India will win very easily this match. But Sri Lankan skipper use their most successful bowler Ajantha Mendis. He took six wickets by giving only 13 runs. Thus Sri Lanka won Asia Cup 2008 by 100 runs.
