Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar wins bronze medal in Beijing Olympic

Freestyle Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar won second medal for India in on going Beijing Olympic. He defeated Kazakhstan’s wrestler in a play-off in men’s 66 kg freestyle wrestling category. Earlier, India’s top freestyle wrestler Sushil Kumar has lost from Ukraine’s Andriy Stadnik in the first round on points in the men’s 66 kg freestyle category. But he got a bye in the qualification round.

This is the second time when India won two medals in a single Olympic games. First time India won two medals in 1952 in hockey and wrestling. Before Sushil Kumar, Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra has won gold medal in same Olympic Games. The gold medal is won by Turkey’s wrestler while Ukraine’s wrestler succeeds to win silver medal.

Indian boxer Akhil, Vijender and Jitender a step away from Olympic medal

In the Beijign Olympic 2008, India has only one Gold medal still now. However Olympic is underway but in other categories Indian are not very hopefully from other participants. In this circumstance, Indian boxers Akhil, Vijender and Jitender a step away from Olympic medal. The Asian Games bronze medalist Vijender defeated Thailand boxer Angikhan Comphuphuang with 13-3 in the 75 kg middleweight class. The tall Indian boxer Vijender Kumar began carefully and took a lead of 2-0 at the end of the first round. Vijender kept his lead at the end and enter quarter final.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Akhil kumar defeated world champion Sergey Vodopyanov and book a berth in quarterfinals and gave right Independence Day gift to Indians. The 21-year-old flyweight boxer Jitender kumar defeated Doniyorov 13-6. He will meet three-time European champion Russian Georgy Balakshin in quarterfinals. Vijender takes on Ecuadorian Carlos Gongora in quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra returned to home

India’s first individual gold winner Abhinav Bindra arrived at the Indira Gandhi International airport mid night on Wednesday. To receive Bindra his father AS Bindra, mother Babli Bindra, Sister Divya Kapoor, brother-in-law Angad Kapoor with a big number of fans were present at airport. The 25 years old Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra said “I am very happy”. He further said that he is feeling honour that he won first individual gold medal for India in Olympics.

Earlier to arriving Abhinav’s at the airport a large number of sports buffs, officials of National Rifle Association of India and Indian Olympic Association were wait to have a glimpse of Bindra.

Olympic gold winning shooter Abhinav Bindra has very busy schedule on Thursday. He will meet many political leaders including Indian president too. First of all Bindra will meet Sports Minister M S Gill then President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and vice President Hamid Ansari. He will address media in the afternoon and after that also meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee in the evening.
